Henk Diepenmaat
Henk B. Diepenmaat (1962) studied Chemistry (University of Nijmegen), Environmental Hygiene (University of Wageningen), Knowledge Engineering (High School of the Arts, Utrecht) and Knowledge and Information Sciences (CIBIT/Middlesex University, Great-Britain). His PhD research (University of Amsterdam, faculties of Psychology and Spatial Sciences, 1997) deals with supporting societal transition towards sustainability from a multi-actor point of view. It was fuelled by his activities as a practitioner in the field of multi-actor process management.
His professional life is centered around one question: how do we live together in a world we understand as shared? This question he addresses both as a scientist and a philosopher. The answers so far he uses both as a consultant and an entrepreneur.
Although familiar with the cultures and practices of advisors, entrepreneurs, politicians, public servants and scientists, he consistently resists becoming either one of them. As a result, he is associate senior researcher and programme manager at DRIFT, director of a successful small consulting firm (Actors Process Management Ltd), and general director of a small scale entrepreneurial development company devoted to actually realising sustainability (The Greenware Hoods Ltd).
At DRIFT, his interests encompass every relevant feature of furthering transition towards sustainability. His specialties are real world multi-actor problem solving and process management, coalition development, project management, visioning processes, actor modeling and stakeholder analysis, and designing and leading strategic meetings and workshops of different types. At this moment he is working with his colleagues on the development and use of a transition monitoring framework that is intimately linked to furthering and steering transitions (transition monitoring in action).
