Researcher

Julia Wittmayer joined Drift in 2008 as a researcher & consultant with an academic background in Social & Cultural Anthropology.

Currently, she works as action researcher with actors (individuals, organisations, groups of people) in towns and urban neighbourhoods using transition management methodology. Amongst others, she is involved in the InContext (researching the interplay of internal and external factors in aiming for sustainable behaviour) and MUSIC (supporting cities in reducing their CO2 emission) projects.

For the national innovation programme in healthcare (Transitieprogramma in de langdurende zorg) she supported the transition arena process (Transitiearena in de langdurende zorg) and broadened it by experimenting with so-called action arenas. Furthermore she monitored the innovation programmes in agriculture (TransForum) and mobility (Transumo) with a transition monitoring framework.

Areas of interest:
- Linking ‘the local’ (e.g. an urban neighbourhood, the care relation between professional and patient) to broader transition processes
- The role of everyday practices, discourses and values in transition processes
- The role of narratives in and the relation of narratives to transition processes
- Going beyond the usual public participation processes towards co-creation
- Social movements and transition movements/networks
- Exploring human-nature relations and how they can support sustainability transitions
