Within the healthcare sector, DRIFT supported the transition towards a more sustainable care with an action research oriented approach.

Transitieprogramma in de langdurende zorg

DRIFT was one of the partners within the transition programme in the long-term care. The programme supported 26 transition experiments that were experimenting with radically new forms of care. These experiments were clustered within four themes: prevention and redefinition of care demand (e.g. development of an innovative neighbourhood for the elderly), development of social support systems (e.g. digital care and well-being services), telecare (e.g. video networks), and efficient business management (e.g. e-health activities). Through innovative approaches the experiments aimed to develop, test and learn from new solutions to persistent problems within the Dutch healthcare sector. The ultimate goal of this programme was not only to implement these innovations in the short term. It also aimed to learn from their successes and failures in order to contribute to the evolvement of new pathways leading to sustainable healthcare in the long run. The programme period extended from 2007 until the end of 2010.

Transitiearena in de langdurende zorg

Next to the ongoing practice oriented experiments, DRIFT invited a group of frontrunners to join a transition arena that aims to explore pathways to sustainable healthcare. Individuals holding various positions in national healthcare organisations, but also authorities in adjacent fields of interest such as housing, lifestyle and the food industry came together in a series of meetings to take on this societal question. Starting in 2008, the transition arena has been busy drawing up a vision for a sustainable Dutch Healthcare sector. In May 2009 “Mensenzorg, een transitiebeweging” [Peoplecare, A transition movement] was ‘launched’ and shared with others from inside and outside the care sector. The arena envisions sustainable healthcare to be people-centred, economically sustainable and embedded within society.
